Christopher Elvin Jr., a University of Richmond student who passed away unexpectedly in March 2024 during his sophomore year, was remembered by the Class of 2026 during the University's Commencement Weekend held May 8-10.

A native of Newark, New Jersey, Christopher had declared as a business administration major and a Chinese Studies minor. He was active with the Ultimate Frisbee club and served as president of West Indian Lynk, a Caribbean student organization.

The Christopher G. Elvin Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by friends, family, and UR community members in 2024. This endowed scholarship honors Christopher’s memory and helps ensure a world-class Richmond education is accessible to talented Spiders from all backgrounds.

The scholarship has received support from 202 donors, including 159 current students and alumni, 21 parents, and 11 faculty and staff members. It was awarded to an undergraduate student for the first time during the 2025-26 academic year: Grace Humphrey, ’29, a political science major from Pittsburgh. Humphrey is a member of the UR Speech and Debate team and Girl Gains, a women’s weightlifting club. She plans to attend law school after graduation.

“The University of Richmond has become so much more than a dream school,” she said. “It has become my home, and I am beyond proud to be a Spider. I am immeasurably grateful to be here each day.”

Increasing access and affordability for all students is a top institutional priority at Richmond. To learn how to support the Christopher G. Elvin Jr. Memorial Scholarship Fund, contact the University of Richmond Advancement office at advancement@richmond.edu or 800.480.4774.
