Announcing the Walker-Goodwin Scholarship
New memorial scholarship will support Robins School of Business students
In March 2026, a University of Richmond alumnus and loyal supporter created a new endowed scholarship to benefit Robins School of Business students with a preference for students from Virginia.
The Walker-Goodwin Scholarship honors the memories of Dr. James C. Goodwin, Jr., and Charles B. Walker, C’67, H’81, two remarkable individuals who had a meaningful impact on the donor’s educational journey and business career.
Goodwin taught at the business schools of Florida State University, the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and Georgia Southern University. He joined the faculty of UR’s MBA program in 1976 and later received UR’s Distinguished Educator Award twice and the Richard S. Reynolds Award for his positive influence on lives and careers. He retired from UR as Professor Emeritus in 2000 and died in 2008.
Walker served as both vice chairman and CFO of Albemarle Corporation, retiring in 2003. Prior to his work at Albemarle, he held several other accounting positions, served in Virginia Governor Mills Godwin's administration as comptroller in the 1970s, and served as commonwealth secretary of administration and finance for Governor John Dalton from 1978 to 1982. He died in 2015.
Increasing access and affordability for all students regardless of their family’s financial circumstance is a top institutional priority at Richmond.
